Thursday, Sept. 9
11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., CUAbroad invites students, faculty and staff to the Second Annual Education Abroad Fair. Program representatives will be available to answer questions about semester-long, summer-long and other program options. Student, faculty and staff photos entered in the contest will be on display at the fair. Edward J. Pryzbyla University Center, Great Room.

Friday, Sept. 10, and Saturday, Sept. 11

Friday, Sept. 10
2 p.m., the School of Philosophy presents "Modern Turns in Mathematics and Physics," by Richard Hassing, associate professor of philosophy. This is the first lecture in the Fall 2010 Philosophy Lecture Series, "The Modern Turn." Aquinas Hall, Auditorium. For more information, call 202-319-5259.

Saturday, Sept. 11
Noon, the Department of Athletics presents the 2010 Football Home Opener. The Cardinal kick-off will begin with President John Garvey outside Cardinal Stadium at noon. Students in attendance can enter to win a free iPad and $10,000. Free food will be served and President Garvey will be present to meet and greet those in attendance.  The game begins at 1 p.m. For more information, call 202-319-5610.

Renew
Students interested in being part of a Renew small prayer group should visit http://ministry.cua.edu to sign up online, or see student ministers to find out when they will be leading groups.

Liturgical Ministry Info Sessions and Trainings
There will be information sessions for all liturgical ministries this week. All meetings will be held in St. Vincent’s Chapel.

  • Readers - Tuesday, Sept. 7, at 7 p.m. (Students should be prepared to read aloud. Training will be given on Sunday, Sept. 19, at 1 p.m.)
  • Altar Servers - Wednesday, Sept. 8, at 7 p.m.
  • Hospitality - Wednesday, Sept. 8, at 8 p.m.

To serve as an extraordinary minister of Communion or a reader a student must be a fully initiated Catholic.
 
Students requesting more information or who are unable to attend should contact David Pennington, associate campus minister for liturgy, at penningd@cua.edu or 202-319-5575 before the meetings.

DC Reads Information Meeting
Students who would like more information on DC Reads can attend an information session in the Pryzbyla Center, Great Room, on Wednesday, Sept. 8, at 7 p.m. Students can register for the program at the meeting and get TB tests at 5 p.m. Interested students should bring their photo IDs. 

Connect 4 Service
Students interested in volunteer opportunities are invited to visit Caldwell Hall, Monsignor Stephen J. Happel Room, on Thursday, Sept. 9, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Freshman Retreat
Students attending Freshman Retreat should visit http://ministry.cua.edu/freshmanretreat to see a packing list and to fill out emergency contact information.  Check-in for the retreat is at 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 10, in front of McMahon Hall.

Masses for Sunday, Sept. 12
University Masses for Sunday, Sept. 12, will take place at 11 a.m. and 9 p.m. in St. Vincent’s Chapel.  There will be no 4 p.m. Mass. The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception will have its normal 4:30 p.m. liturgy.

Freshman Service Day
All freshmen are invited to participate in a day of fun and service with their classmates. Those taking part will meet in Caldwell Hall, Happel Room, Saturday, Sept. 18, 9 a.m. Meals and transportation are provided. Students can sign up online at service.cua.edu or e-mail cua-service@cua.edu for more information.

6 to 7 p.m., the Office of Campus Activities presents "The Roots of Democracy in Canon Law," by Kenneth Pennington, Kelly-Quinn Professor of Ecclesiastical and Legal History. Pryzbyla Center, Room 323. This lecture is part of the Dialogue on Demand series.

Wednesday, Sept. 15
4 p.m., President John Garvey will welcome freshmen at the Class of 2014 Convocation. Provost James Brennan will give the convocation address, "Structure of Intellectual Revolutions." Basilica, Great Upper Church. 

Friday, Sept. 17

Przybyla Hours Over Holiday Weekend
The Office of Conferences and Pryzbyla Management announces that over Labor Day weekend, Friday, Sept. 3, through Monday, Sept. 6, the Pryzbyla Center will be open each day from 7 a.m. to midnight. Jumpstart is Hiring
Jumpstart, an AmeriCorps program that recruits college students to work with 3- to 5-year-old children, is now hiring. Employees read stories, sing songs and play games that support young children’s school readiness, and earn a work-study wage and an AmeriCorps education award of up to $1,132. Jumpstart Corps members work eight to 12 hours a week in local early childhood centers, partnered with a small group of children. Important Updates for Tuition Exchange and Tuition Assistance

  • Tuition Exchange
    The 2011-2012 Tuition Exchange Application is now posted.
  • Tuition Assistance
    CUA faculty and staff who wish to receive the tuition assistance benefit for themselves or dependents for the fall 2010 semester must submit their Application for Tuition Assistance to the Office of Human Resources by Friday, Sept. 10.

    As a reminder, employees must submit an application for tuition assistance by the deadline for every semester that they wish to receive the benefit.
