8:30 p.m., the University Honors Council hosts the first of three book discussion groups on C. S. Lewis’ The Space Trilogy. Lenten Adoration
Sign-up sheets for an hour of adoration this Lenten Season in Caldwell Chapel are available in the Campus Ministry office. 


Stations of the Cross
Stations of the Cross will be held Mondays at 6 p.m. in Caldwell Chapel during the season of Lent (except for March 8). For more information, call 202-319-5575.

An Opportunity to Give Alms
The Office of Campus Activities is collecting items to be donated to Calvary Women’s Services, which provides shelter for homeless women in D.C. The following items can be dropped off at the campus activities office, Pryzbyla Center, Room 107, by Tuesday, March 30:

Cleaning supplies (window cleaner, duster, toilet scrub, all surface wipes, etc.); air mattresses; reams of white or multi-colored copy paper; umbrellas; pill organizers; boxes of powdered laundry detergent; boxes of cereal; cans of coffee; towels; liquid hand soap; colored twin sheet sets; liquid dish soap; pillows; feminine hygiene products; manila folders; toilet paper; theater and movie tickets; gift certificates for manicures, facials or massages; acrylic paints, brushes and small canvasses.

End the Word
CUA will join a global campaign on Wednesday, March 3, to "Spread the Word to End the Word." This campaign's goal is to raise awareness of the dehumanizing and hurtful effects of the word "retarded." Members of CUA's Best Buddies chapter will be at a table in the Pryzbyla Center Lobby, where they will encourage people to pledge their support for the cause. There will also be Mass at 6:30 p.m. in Caldwell Hall Auditorium followed by a dinner. For more information, e-mail cuabestbuddies@gmail.com.

Spring Break Mass Schedule
There will be no Campus Ministry Masses on the weekend of March 7. Masses will resume on Sunday, March 14, in St. Vincent's with the 9 p.m. Mass only. For more information, call 202-319-5575.

As part of the iPromise campaign, students can visit http://ipromise.cua.edu to pledge to take care of themselves and their friends over Spring Break.

Lenten Retreat
“Found in Him,” a traditional Lenten retreat, will be held Friday, March 19, to Sunday, March 21, for all CUA students. The weekend features Lenten devotions, opportunities for liturgical prayer, silent meditation and talks on spirituality. Students can sign up at http://ministry.cua.edu. The cost is $40 (scholarships are available).

Lockers at DuFour Must be Cleared This Week
The Department of Athletics announces that the locker rooms in the Raymond A. DuFour Center will be painted during Spring Break week, starting on Monday, March 8. All students, faculty and staff must clear lockers they have been using of all belongings no later than Sunday, March 7. Any belongings left after this date will be removed. Pryzbyla Center Spring Break Hours
The Pryzbyla Center will operate as follows during Spring Break:

  • Sunday, March 14: 7 a.m. to midnight

Donations of School Supplies for the Dominican Republic
The Spanish for Healthcare class is accepting donations of cash or elementary school supplies through March 5. The group will deliver the supplies to the community of El Naranjito where they will be working during Spring Break.  Donations can be dropped off in McMahon Hall, Room 208. Extended Deadline for Fall Study Abroad
CUAbroad has extended the application deadline for fall 2010 semester education abroad programs to Friday, March 19. A list of fall semester programs can be found at http://cuabroad.cua.edu/programs/semester.cfm.

Education Abroad Information Session
CUAbroad conducts Education Abroad 101 information sessions every Monday at 12:30 p.m. and every Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. in McMahon Hall, Room 111. Oxford Honors information sessions are held every Monday at noon and Friday at 2 p.m. For more information, call 202-319-6010.

Study Abroad Scholarship
CUAbroad is offering a $1,000 scholarship opportunity to students applying for non-traditional locations as well as for CUA’s two flagship programs — the CUA in Rome semester and the Oxford Honors Program. Professional Online Tutoring Information Session
The Center for Academic Success is hosting information sessions by SmarThinking, a professional online tutoring service, on Wednesday, March 3. The university will be providing subsidized online tutoring for selected courses. Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to attend the sessions. Center for Academic Success staff will be available to answer questions about how best to integrate online assistance with existing support provided on campus.

Student Leadership Recognition Celebration 2010
The Student Leadership Recognition Celebration identifies members of the CUA community whose service and committed leadership deserve special recognition. Know Your Numbers Wellness Event – Some Screenings Open to All Employees
All CUA employees (including those who do not participate in university UnitedHealthcare plans) are invited to take part in UnitedHealthcare's Know your Numbers Wellness Event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, March 4. In Great Room B, any employee can take part in free eye exams, chiropractic screenings, seated massages (only between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.) and other screenings and door prizes.

CUA employees who participate in any of the UnitedHealthcare insurance plans can sign up for the full schedule of screenings. In Great Room A, they will have access to free health screenings including blood pressure, glucose and cholesterol tests. Employees should bring their insurance cards. 

To register for the screenings taking place in Great Room A, visit https://www.provantevents.com/CUA. Employees signing up will be classified as new users. An individual's subscriber ID Number is their UHC member ID number. After completing the health screening, employees will be eligible to earn $75 in gift cards by completing a Health Risk Assessment at www.myuhc.com

Updated Holiday Schedule
The Office of Human Resources would like to remind faculty and staff that Monday, April 5, 2010, will no longer be treated as a holiday for the current academic year due to the recent weather-related closings. All CUA employees are expected to be at work on April 5 (in accordance with normal work schedules). Staff members with concerns about this change as it relates to their own work schedule should speak to their direct supervisor/manager. TIAA-CREF Counseling Sessions — Spring 2010
A representative from TIAA-CREF will be on campus to provide one-on-one counseling sessions for employees on:  

  • Tuesday, March 16
  • Tuesday, March 23
  • Tuesday, April 20
  • Thursday, April 22
