Pro-Life Hospitality for the March for Life 2010
In January, CUA will host more than 1,200 teenage pilgrims from around the country for the annual March for Life and Prayer Vigil. Campus Ministry needs more than 200 volunteers to provide hospitality services to the pilgrims. Students can sign up at

Pryzbyla Center End-of-Semester Hours
The Pryzbyla Center will be open as follows through Jan. 10:

  • Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 21 and 22, 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

  • Monday, Jan. 4, through Saturday, Jan. 9: 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Sunday, Jan. 10: 8 a.m. to midnight.

Normal operating hours begin on Jan. 11:

Survey on Privacy
Members of the Catholic University community are invited to participate in a 10-minute online research survey regarding their views on privacy and business ethics. All answers are completely confidential. Those who take part will be eligible to win one of 16 gift certificates ranging in value from $25 to $100. Results of this survey will be available to the CUA community.

Middle States Self-Study Report to Be Posted Online
On Dec. 14, the draft of Catholic University’s Middle States Self-Study report, an online form to solicit feedback about it, and the schedule for a series of town hall meetings were posted on the CUA Web site at At the town hall meetings, all members of the CUA community will have a chance to share their thoughts about the 180-page draft of the report, which addresses how CUA meets the Middle States Commission’s 14 “Characteristics of Excellence” standards. The report also highlights how, since 2000, the university has progressed in five areas: improving undergraduate education, enhancing support for graduate students, introducing new professional graduate programs, enhancing extramural research support and designing a strategy for strengthening CUA’s financial base.

The town hall meetings are the final step in the research and documentation used to create the self-study report. It is expected that feedback from the town hall meetings will help to refine the report.

The meetings, hosted by the Middle States Self-Study Steering Committee, are scheduled as follows:

Is CUA Open or Closed?
The Office of Public Affairs wishes to remind faculty, staff and students how to find out about the closing or delayed opening of Catholic University because of inclement weather. The quickest ways to find out are to check the CUA Web site at or to call the university’s main number — 202-319-5000. The information is available through those two sources by 6 a.m. on days when weather conditions are extremely poor. In addition, CUA contacts all local TV outlets and major radio outlets, and they, too, report the information.

Power Outages
In order to install a new sub-panel for the ongoing electrical/HVAC project on the third floor of McCort-Ward Hall, a power outage has been scheduled for the morning of Monday, Dec. 21. The following buildings will be affected:  

  • From 7 a.m. to 7:15 a.m.: Shahan Hall, McGivney Hall, Conaty Hall, Spellman Hall, Gibbons Hall, Cardinal Hall 
  • From 7 a.m. to 8 a.m.: Stucco Building, Power Plant boilers and part of the second floor, McMahon Hall, McCort-Ward Hall, Nursing-Biology Building, Gowan Hall, Maloney Hall

In addition there will be a series of mandated power outages in the coming days.

The university is required to comply annually with Pepco’s high voltage testing and maintenance procedures. The Office of Facilities Maintenance and Operations makes every effort to schedule these annual outages during periods that will have the least impact on the daily operations of the university. The schedule below was developed after careful review of university calendars.

  • Tuesday, Dec. 22, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.: Flather Hall, Ryan Hall, Regan Hall, St. Vincent's Chapel, Fitness Center and Health Center
  • Wednesday, Dec. 23, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.: Feeder #20, Gowan Hall, Nursing Biology Building, McCort-Ward Hall, Maloney Hall, Mullen Hall and Power Plant Boilers

    7 a.m. to 10 a.m. only: Feeder #40, Cardinal Hall, McGivney Hall, Shahan Hall, Conaty Hall, Spalding Hall, Spellman Hall and Gibbons Hall
  • Monday, Dec. 28, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.: Feeder #30, Power Plant 2nd floor, Crough Center, Pangborn Hall, McMahon Hall, Stucco Building and McCarthy Building

    7 to 8 a.m.: Feeder #50, Leahy Hall, Caldwell Hall, Ward Hall, Curley Hall, Salve Regina Hall and Hartke Hall

Mid-Year Job Fair
The Office of Career Services will hold a Mid-Year Job Fair on Thursday, Jan. 14, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Pryzbyla Center, Great Room. The fair will be targeted to work-study students who notified the career services office they would defer working until the spring semester, work-study students who wish to change positions/offices, and any student looking for a non-work-study position on or off campus.

Room Selection 2010
Room Selection for the 2010-2011 school year will take place during the spring semester with online lotteries for students to select a space. Intent Forms are now available in the housing services office in Cardinal Hall, Room 160, and the residence hall offices on campus. Tablesaws for Sale
The Office of Environmental Health and Safety announces the sale of two tablesaws that the university no longer needs. The university provides no guarantees or warranties on service or conditions of this equipment, which is available for viewing by appointment. All sales are first-come, first-serve. Winter Baseball Camps
Catholic University Head Baseball Coach Ross Natoli will conduct instructional baseball camps for players ages 7 to 18 of all ability and experience levels. Camps will take place on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, Dec. 20 to 31 and Jan. 10 to Feb. 14. Group and team discounts are available.
