Start the New Year with Weight Watchers
The Office of Human Resources and the Washington, D.C., branch of Weight Watchers International invite students, faculty and staff to register for the Weight Watchers at Work program to be held on campus during the spring semester for 14 weeks. The program will teach participants how to make wise choices, eat healthy, enjoy food and exercise. The program fee is $168 payable in two installments.  An information session will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 12, in Room 100 of Leahy Hall. A regular meeting time will be announced in January as Weight Watchers has been asked if it can provide a mid-day time on a day other than Friday.  For more information, call Laura Savard at 202-319-5606 or Marion Ficke at 202-319-5870.

Mitten Trees
Bring in a new pair of mittens or gloves and join CUA Dining Services in decorating the mitten trees. On Dec. 20 all donated mittens and gloves will be delivered to Children's National Medical Center. The trees are located in the Student Restaurant, Food Court and law school cafe. Instructional Baseball Camps
CUA Head Baseball Coach Ross Natoli will conduct instructional baseball mini-camps this winter from Dec. 27 to 29, and on Friday evenings, Saturday mornings and Sunday mornings from Jan. 5 to Feb. 11. All camps will be held in the DuFour Center. Camps are open to players ages 8 to 18, of all ability and experience levels. Attendees will be instructed by members of the CUA baseball coaching staff, local college and high school coaches, and college and professional players. Emphasis will be placed on baseball fundamentals as well as exposing talented high school prospects to college recruiters. Individual videotaping included. Group and team discounts are available. Exercise Equipment for Auction
The Purchasing Office is auctioning four pieces of used exercise equipment. Included are three exercise cycles and a rowing machine. These items are available for viewing at the DuFour Center next to the racquetball courts. The minimum bid for each item will be $50. Advent Adoration
The Blessed Sacrament will be exposed in Caldwell Chapel following the 12:15 p.m. Mass daily (Dec. 11-14), Monday and Tuesday until 8 p.m., Wednesday and Thursday until 9 p.m.  All are invited to stop by the chapel for quiet prayer and reflection. For more information, call Jessica DePrizio at 202-319-5575.

Changes to Metrochek Benefit
Employees who receive the Metrochek transit benefit and use their Metrochek cards either as Metrorail farecards or exchange them for Metrobus tokens can now participate in a new program that is being offered by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA):  SmartBenefits.

SmartBenefits is the "digital" way to receive a Metrochek transit benefit.  Instead of receiving paper Metrochek cards, you can electronically download the dollar value of your Metrochek benefit onto your WMATA registered SmarTrip card account on the first business day of the month.  More information on this new benefit is available at

Year-End Payroll Information
As the end of 2006 approaches, help the payroll department by turning in all timesheets and leave reports by the due date. The payroll department will not have time to process pay if timesheets or other documents are submitted late. Note that no off-cycle checks will be disbursed for late timesheets, late hiring forms or retroactive pay. Timesheets are due by noon on Dec. 15. 

Documentation for any employment activity must be submitted to the Office of Human Resources, signed by the cognizant vice president, at least 14 days prior to the effective date to allow time for the departments in the approval cycle to complete their review and return the forms to the human resources office.

Did you move this year? To receive 2006 Form W-2s in a timely manner, submit address changes by filling out the top half of the Employee Data Form and sending it to the Office of Human Resources in Leahy 107. The form is available at No additional signatures are required for an address change.

Mandated Power Outages
To comply with Pepco's high-voltage testing and maintenance procedures, CUA's Office of Facilities Maintenance and Operations is conducting mandated power outages between Dec. 18 and 29. For more information, call the office at 202-319-5121.

The outages have been scheduled as follows:
