Opening of classes.

Thursday, Aug. 31
Noon, Mass of the Holy Spirit. Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. Picnic to welcome Archbishop Wuerl as chancellor of the university after the Mass. Edward J. Pryzbyla University Center, west patio and lawn. Classes are cancelled between 12:10 p.m. and 4 p.m.

Newly Appointed Director of Procurement Services
Associate Vice President of Business Services Ralph Scherini announces that Norman Brown has been appointed director of procurement services. Brown has more than 20 years of procurement experience in the commercial, defense and higher education sectors, including four years at George Washington University as senior buyer.

New Director of Financial Aid
Vice President for Enrollment Management W. Michael Hendricks announces that Donald Bosse has been appointed the new director of financial aid.  Bosse has been with CUA since 2000 as the associate director of financial aid and worked at Towson University in the financial aid area prior to joining CUA.

Hendricks also announces that Doris Torosian decided to step down as the director of financial aid to spend more time with her family.  Torosian will remain at CUA in her new capacity as senior associate director of financial aid.  "I want to thank Doris for her years of dedicated service to the Catholic University of America.  Her many years of experience, work ethic and tremendous spirit will continue to be a resource to the campus community," Hendricks said.

Submissions for Orientation Folders
The 2006 Orientation staff invites CUA offices and departments to create an informational insert for inclusion in the Orientation folder, distributed to incoming students and their parents. Interested parties should deliver their inserts to Anna Tegan in the Office of the Dean of Students as soon as possible and no later than Wednesday, Aug. 16. Guidelines are as follows:

  • Undergraduate student folders require 900 inserts
  • Parent folders require 700 inserts
  • Graduate student folders require 300 inserts
  • Inserts should be no larger than 8.5"x11"
