Orientation 2005 Information
The Office of the Dean of Students announces that the orientation program for new freshman, transfer students and their families begins Thursday, Aug. 25, with parent sessions continuing through Saturday, Aug. 27, and student sessions concluding Sunday, Aug. 28. New students have the opportunity to meet with their faculty advisers and learn about university services, programs and academic requirements. The orientation program for parents provides an overview of campus life and university policies and addresses the changes and challenges they may experience as their children join the CUA community.
A brochure regarding orientation is sent to incoming students once they have deposited with the Office of Admissions. The brochure provides registration details, information concerning requirements for matriculating at the university and general information including an overview of the orientation schedule, available campus services and hotel accommodations.
The brochure also provides incoming freshman with details of the Reader’s Program, which is designed to encourage them to interact with faculty and develop a rapport with peers who share a common interest in reading. Staff and faculty can view the full text of the Reader's Program brochure on the orientation Web site, linked below.
In early August, a virtual brochure will be posted on the orientation Web site. This brochure, titled “Frequently Asked Questions for New Students and their Families” provides an overview of university services and policies and is intended to complement other university mailings new students receive over the summer, as well as university publications such as the Student Handbook and Announcements.
The final orientation publication, “Program Schedule,” is distributed to new students and parents upon their Aug. 25 arrival on campus. Copies of the program schedule will be distributed to university faculty and staff during the week of Aug. 22.
As in past years, orientation name tags are provided to university faculty and staff who traditionally participate in the orientation program. Information is sent to various offices in mid-August.
For more information, contact Ellen Breipohl Thorp, assistant dean of students, at 202-319-5619 or visit the orientation Web site at http://orientation.cua.edu.
