CUA E-Mail Upgrades
The following message to CUA e-mail users is from Zia Mafaher, CUA's chief information officer and executive director of CPIT:

You may notice some very small changes in e-mail over the next few weeks. We are busily upgrading the e-mail system, in response to heavy usage and the requests we've received for greater functionality. The main change will occur during the week of Aug. 11-17 and should not affect any member of the community for more than a few minutes. Should you have any difficulties, simply close your mailbox and try again five minutes later. We hope you'll be happy with the new system; in any event, don't worry, because all your old settings will still work. If you have any questions, concerns or difficulties, please contact the CPIT Information Center at or by calling 319-4357.

Health & Safety
Follow Safety Rules
When rules are respected, employees' health and safety are protected. About 5,200 workers died in 2000 because of work-related injuries. Each year, a death occurs every 101 minutes in the United States because of on-the-job accidents. Remember to work safely. Always follow approved procedures and practices. Eliminate the causes of accidents — unsafe acts, unsafe conditions or both. Never sacrifice safety in the rush to get things done. Know the specific hazards associated with your work and handle materials safely. For more information, contact Louis Alar at 202-319-5789 or
