The Office of Summer Sessions sponsors the Lion Drummers World Percussion Workshop, a series of classes, held Monday through Friday, aimed at teaching elementary, middle school, high school and college students the fundamentals of playing percussion instruments in rock, jazz, Afro-Latin and African music.
The elementary school class will run from 9 a.m. to noon, the middle school class from 12:15 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. and the high school/college class from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. A joint concert will be held on Aug. 2 at 7:30 p.m. All the classes are taught by Master Instructor Luis Garay. The Office of Conferences and Event Planning announces that the following organizations will be using campus facilities this month:
|From Friday, July 25, to Sunday, July 27, Monster.com, the world's largest job-seeker Web site, will hold its Diversity Leadership Program, aimed at teaching local incoming college juniors and seniors about resume building, job hunting and interviewing. From Wednesday, July 30, to Saturday, Aug. 2, the U.S. Department of Labor's Employment and Training Administration will hold its Youth Career Skills Challenge, which will test the academic skills of 200 teen-agers from impoverished urban neighborhoods, rural areas and Indian reservations. The challenge will feature contests in mathematics and language arts, and will include a college and job fair. The contest will be held at various campus locations, including the Pryzbyla Center and Hartke Theatre. For more information, call 202-693-3377.
Effective Monday, July 21, Erin McCann is the new associate director for publications and services in the Office of Public Affairs. She replaces Stephanie Ravel. Summer Session Classes
The remaining two (out of five) sessions of professional development workshops ¿ graduate-level classes to help education professionals such as teachers and adminstrators earn their certifications or get re-certified ¿ will be held. The fourth session runs from Monday, July 21, through Friday, July 25; the fifth runs from Monday, July 28, through Friday, Aug. 3. For more information, call 202-319-5572.
The Office of Human Resources announces a change in the way CUA employees can access CIGNA behavioral healthcare. Effective July 1, 2003, CIGNA HealthCare has eliminated the prior authorization requirement for routine outpatient behavioral care. CIGNA Behavioral Health, Inc., is the first behavioral health benefit company to eliminate this requirement.
Members can continue to verify provider participation in the CIGNA Behavioral Health network by going to http://www.cigna.com or by calling the toll-free number on their ID cards (800-244-6224) for questions or personalized help. But they are no longer required to obtain authorization prior to accessing routine outpatient mental health and substance abuse treatment from providers participating in the CIGNA Behavioral Health network.
