CIGNA Privacy Reminder Notices
On June 28, CIGNA HealthCare began mailing its HIPAA Privacy Reminder Notices to all plan participants. This notice describes the privacy rights CIGNA members have under the HIPAA Privacy Rule that became effective on April 14, 2004. The privacy notice outlines how CIGNA HealthCare uses and discloses its members¿ confidential information and explains their individual rights, including:

¿ Requesting additional restrictions on the use and disclosure of confidential information.
¿ Receiving confidential communications by alternate means or at alternative locations.
¿ Inspecting and copying confidential information.
¿ Requesting an amendment or correction to confidential information.
¿ Requesting an accounting of disclosures.

To exercise these rights or to receive a Spanish translation of the Privacy Notice, members are advised to contact Member Services at the toll-free number on their ID cards. CIGNA customer service associates will mail the appropriate form to requesting members. These forms also can be found at http://www.myCIGNA.com.
